How to isolate toms from a full mix

Toms are one of the hardest drum elements to isolate from a full mix because they share frequency range with both the kick drum and the bass guitar. DrumSplit's 5-stem separation pulls toms into their own track.

Tom fills and rolls are signature moments in rock, prog and metal. The isolated tom stem captures these fills cleanly, including floor toms, rack toms and any tuned percussion that occupies the tom frequency band.

Step-by-step

  1. Open DrumSplit.io. Any browser, no install needed.
  2. Upload the song with the tom pattern you want. Any format up to 100 MB. Lossless sources give the cleanest tom isolation.
  3. Choose Natural mode. Toms are almost always acoustic. Natural mode handles them best.
  4. Wait 2-3 minutes. DrumSplit returns 6 stems including an isolated tom track.
  5. Download the tom stem. The toms.wav file contains all tom hits from the song — fills, rolls, and sustained patterns.
